Technology has changed the face of the world and it can do anything we want. Just like this, Machine Learning is a device, which is being applied to almost everything these days. Trust us, the results are just perfect. Back in 2015, Microsoft released its Emotion API, which could examine the person’s face and detect fully what a person is actually feeling. In short, it shows us a range of feelings a person has. By using Microsoft’s artificial intelligence tool, we can check many hidden emotions that a human eye can’t discover. You know what this technology is the best to know how Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif really feels about the panama case. Yes, it’s true.
Ammar A. Raja, a data analyst from Pakistan, who is making use of the Emotion API has analyzed Prime Minister feelings about the Panama papers revelations.
“I read an article in which Ben Hubl applied Microsoft Cognitive Service Emotion API for an emotions analysis of the video of Hillary and Trump debate. I was amazed to see the accuracy of results, and the way the graphs of emotions were shown for each frame of the video.”
He just wanted to check what kind of emotions PM Nawaz Sharif showed during the speech and the hilarious thing is that emotions can be tracked for the whole video. So you can see the changing of emotions during the whole video.
How API Really Works?
According to Microsoft, “The Emotion API takes a facial expression in an image as an input, and returns the confidence across a set of emotions for each face in the image, as well as bounding box for the face, using the Face API.”
It can detect anger, contempt, disgust, fear, happiness, neutral, sadness and surprise as ratios out of 1.
The Result of Emotion API Test on PM’s Address
So according to the above picture, the highest emotional values were,
Neutral – 0.42
Anger – 0.30
Disgust – 0.20
We can understand the happiness level of PM Nawaz Sharif, nearly non-existent.
Now, check out the average emotions from the graph given below:
I just can’t stop laughing at the PM’s reaction, where as expected, anger remains the most highest one. It means he was quite angry during the speech.
Now, the histogram of the reported values during the whole speech is shown below. It shows us the emotional values for each frame of the video as it progresses.
The speech started with high anger, sadness and disgust, which then also dipped and flattened off. At the start, the happiness level was very low and then it improved with the passage of time. Moreover, the remaining emotions like fear, contempt and surprise remained low during the whole speech.
Ammar further said, he plans on using natural language processing to use the sound to access the emotions of the Prime Minister in the future.
