Jawani Phir Nahi Ani – Review

Zindagi Na Mileygi Dobara? Masti? Hangover? Or Hangover + Masti? There didn’t seem anything original about the JPNA trailer. Mehwish Hayat emerging out from water in a swimsuit was what getting every ones eyes glued on the screen.Pretty bold girls, dance and clubbing, beach scenes, something which usually clicks with the masses is common yet never goes stale. One could make out its about a group of depressed, frustrated guys looking for some good time.

The movie revolves around three childhood friends, Saif (Hamza Ali Abbasi), Sheikh (Vasay Chaudhry) and Pervez (Ahmed Ali Butt), who are married and settled in their lives but are afraid of their wives. Their friend Sherry (Humayun Saeed), a divorce lawyer, returns to Pakistan from US to meet them, only to discover that their lives are literally miserable because of their wives. Hence, he decides to take his friends to a boys trip to Bangkok to add some spice and excitement to their lives.

The entire storyline about Sherry is lifted straight from Bollywood movie Houseful 2 and the songs are very poor. As for performances Vasay chaudhary did a great job his comic timings are superb and his expressions were flawless. Vasay has filled the script with self-aware one-liners, references to Pakistani pop culture and hilarious situations. Actor Ahmed Ali Butt gets some of the best farcical moments. His comedic timing is one of the many acting highlights in the film.Hamza too did agood  job in making people laugh.

What save the film are inspired performances by the ensemble cast and many genuinely funny moments. The actresses including Ayesha khan  , Sarwat gillani , Mehwish hayat and Sohai ali abro all were stunning. Much of the ensemble cast has small parts. Both Javed Sheikh and Bushra Ansari play caricature characters that resemble former roles. The two veterans do an excellent job and are engaging and amusing.

Despite its flaws, JPNA is an out-and-out entertainer. An engaging blend of slapstick, spoofs and wit, the film is easy on the eye and an undemanding crowd-pleaser. Definitely worth the price of a ticket.

The film received average reviews overall from critics.
