It is the common talk that politicians, especially the Presidents and Prime Ministers have a far different lifestyle than the common man. Yes it is true, but not for Uruguay, where there is a Poorest and Most Generous President of the World. In this world, you can see the rulers are struggling to earn more wealth and fill their pockets. The Uruguay president Jose Mujica have purely the different way to live his life with more generosity.
The Residence Of Poorest And Most Generous President Of The World
You will be shocked to know about the residence of Jose Mujica, who lives in a decrepit farm. Outside the house, there is laundry and water comes from the well in a yard, which is overgrown with wildflowers. He has only two police officers as his security and three legged dog. He didn’t take any luxurious lifestyle and house from the Uruguayan state and chose to stay at the farmhouse of his wife. With his wife named Lucia Topolanski, Jose Mujica has been living there since 2010. He and his wife have chosen a very simple life and work themselves by growing flowers.
Interview With Jose Mujica – Lowest Paid Politician
During his interview he said, “the most expensive car he has ever owned is an Volkswagen Beetle, which costs $1945 U.S. dollars”. He added, according to the newspaper that, “his monthly salary is $12,500. He keeps only $1,250 of this and donates the rest for charity”. Mujica donates about 90% of his monthly salary, equivalent to $12,000 (£7,500), to charity – has led him to be known as the poorest and most generous president of the world. “I’ve lived like this most of my life,” he says, sitting on an old chair in his garden, using a cushion favored by Manuela the dog. “I can live well with what I have.”
His years in jail has changed his mind over lifestyle. He said,
“I’m called ‘the poorest president’, but I don’t feel poor. Poor people are those who only work to try to keep an expensive lifestyle, and always want more and more,” he says.
“This is a matter of freedom. If you don’t have many possessions then you don’t need to work all your life like a slave to sustain them, and therefore you have more time for yourself,” he says.
“I may appear to be an eccentric old man… But this is a free choice.”
Best Example Of Solidarity
In 2012, during the cold days of the winter, Mujica was offered to use the presidential residence for homeless families. It was previously used for the government meetings. The Ministry of Social Development (MIDES) managed to think about other options, and the Presidential Palace was not used. But it remains as an option in case of emergencies.
The best example of his solidarity is when he took part in a meeting of CEFIR (Training Center for Regional Integration). He gave a lecture on the topic “Challenges for Mercosure”. During the lecture, he was seen with the injured nose and on asking he replied with an amazing answer. That while helping a neighbor to repair a metal roof, which was damaged due to wind storm, he injured his nose.
Not only this, the president always advises his people to serve as a role model. So that we can convince others to follow the same example to live the life…
